Classic Glass Corvette Club held its first annual Poker Run on Saturday, April 12, 2008 to benefit Autism Speaks. The weather was not the sunny delight that most Corvette owners' like to show off their cars in, but over 25 cars braved the misty morning to join in the ride.
The 95-mile course began in Canton and wound its way through the picturesque Georgia Mountains to culminate at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville. Gordon Pirkle and his staff at the Champion's Café were wonderful hosts to the awards luncheon.
The 'Vette owners were thrilled as volunteers from the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame flagged them into Winner's Circle where they were parked for the remainder of the festivities:
More than $650 was raised, with donations still coming in, to promote the awareness of Autism. Autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the United States affecting one in every 150 children. Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed somewhere on the autism spectrum than are girls. There is no medical "early detection" for autism, so funds are greatly needed for research. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, juvenile diabetes and cancer combined.
